Colleges for our 2017 Best Value Master’s in Business were selected from a pool of close to 300 regionally accredited colleges and universities that are widely recognized for their quality of business education by multiple national publications including U.S. News & World Report. We then ranked these schools according to our proprietary weighted methodology which aggregates publicly available data and produces an overall score of 1 to 100. The top 50 scores that come out of this methodology have earned their place in this ranking.
For our Master’s in Business ranking we have highlighted both MBA degree programs as well as Specialized Master’s in particular business disciplines such as accountancy, finance, economics, and so on. We do however, give special attention to the MBA as the cornerstone degree for business professionals and executive leadership.
There has been and always will be a need for the careful study of accounting, finance, management, management sciences, marketing and logistics as these are the building blocks of successful careers. Furthermore, surveys have shown that a vast majority of business executives hold that a graduate degree in business is still important to reach senior management ranks within most companies. There is a growing body of evidence that having an MBA not only gives professionals more leverage in determining new job titles and salary, but also in achieving a better balance between work and life outside work. A graduate degree in business will appeal to professionals moving up in their chosen field as well as those changing paths completely. The MBA is perhaps the greatest career accelerator of any graduate level degree available and earning a graduate degree in business is very likely to provide a high return on investment in the long run.
Yet, a business education today that prepares students for immediate relevance and lasting impact is about more than simple preparation for fulfilling the functions of business and management. It places these fundamentals into a new and broader context. It is about cultural awareness, challenges to traditional thinking, and developing a mindset that balances ambition and ethics. For students pursuing a career in business administration or one of its multiple related disciplines a top tier education is vital to developing the skills of analysis and innovation that are characteristic of top business leaders who can make decisions that are more complex than ever before and who will understand the full scope of an enterprise and its potential in a global economy. Our ranking thus provides a valuable resource in that we have balanced schools’ reputations for offering cutting edge and innovative business educations with other objective factors that play into a “valuable” education so that individuals can get a top tier education for the lowest possible tuition dollar.
It should also be noted that in building our ranking we take both in and out-of-state tuition into consideration. However, it is always the case that attending college in your state of residency will be more affordable and ultimately provide a better return on investment than attending an out-of-state school. Where applicable, any program on this list that is in your state of residency should be considered among those at the top of the list.
