For our 2017 Online Master’s of Engineering in Aerospace Engineering ranking we have collected a list of all regionally accredited colleges and universities offering online programs in Aerospace Engineering and Aviation and ranked them using to our weighted methodology which aggregates publicly available data including U.S. News scores, tuition rates, return on investment according to Payscale.com, graduation rates, and cohort default rates to produce an overall score of 1-100. The top 25 scoring programs are those included in this ranking.
Aerospace engineering involves the analysis and design of complex multidisciplinary systems associated with aircraft, spacecraft, rockets, unpiloted aerial and space robotic platforms, and many other emerging areas within aeronautics and astronautics. Engineers with a degree in Aerospace engineering may enter fields of employment such as: high-technology industries, research organizations, consulting firms, government agencies, and more. Additionally, because of the inherent interdisciplinary nature of aerospace engineering, professionals working in non-aerospace engineering sectors may also benefit from the coursework offered as part of the distance master’s of aerospace engineering degree program.
Programs in Aviation and Aeronautics include engineering aspects, but focus less on problem-solving and more on troubleshooting of aircrafts and related infrastructures. We put these two together in a single engineering ranking because as related disciplines, aviation science programs often provide enough of a base in engineering that if graduates decide to pursue a career outside of aviation, aeronautics and aerospace engineering related careers would be open.
It should be noted that in building our ranking we take both in and out-of-state tuition into consideration. However, attending college in your state of residency will always be more affordable and ultimately provide a better return on investment than attending an out-of-state school. Where applicable, any program on this list offered through a public college or university that is in your state of residency should be considered among those at the top of the list.
Note: Tuition rates listed are estimates and total tuition costs will vary from student to student and program to program based on a number of factors.
